James “Jim” Robert Brandon, 73 of Dawson Springs passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024, at his home. Born July 25, 1950, in Madisonville, to the late Elroy and Francis (McGregor) Brandon of St. Charles, until they moved to Dublin, GA while he was in elementary school. He often told stories of playing with his siblings in Hunger and Hardship Creek when they were young. He graduated from Dublin High School in 1969 and joined the armed services at the age of 20. He served three years with the Army and was a proud veteran of the war in Vietnam. After his military service, James returned to Hopkins County where he made a wonderful life with wife, Patricia. Married in 1975, they celebrated over 49 years of marriage and memories together. They welcomed daughter, Misty, in 1977, adding to their love and memories. James had a twenty-five-year career in coal mining and later worked as a custodian before retiring to spend time with his wife and their grandbabies. James loved being at home watching reruns of old westerns with Patricia.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Timothy Theodore Brandon and Karen Sue Brandon Huebel; and siblings-in-law, William & Retta Fulkerson, Harold “Butch” Alshire, James Morgan, Barbara Morgan Knight and Ronnie Morgan.
Survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Faye Morgan Brandon; daughter and son-in-law, Misty & Casey Cotton (Dawson Springs); grandchildren, Patty, JT, and Michael Cotton (Dawson Springs); brother and sister-in-law, Archie Glenn & Agnes Ann Brandon (St. Charles); brother-in-law, Dan Huebel (Illinois); sisters-in-law: Karen Jean Kenyon (Dawson Springs) and Sandra Alshire (Nebo).
Service will be held Sunday at 3:00pm at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville with Bro. Bobby McKnight and Bro. Craig Jenkins officiating. Burial to follow at Ilsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be JT Cotton, Chadrick Alshire, Shelby Myers, Hunter Robinson, Joseph Brandon and Jason Brandon. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Myers and Gregory Brown.
Military Honors will be provided by Hopkins County Honor Guard on Wednesday at Ilsley Cemetery, time to be determined and posted here.
